Congratulations! You're engaged. What an exciting time in your life!

You might be asking: "Now what?"

Well, now it is time to get planning.

Like most newly engaged couples, you likely have many questions about the wedding planning process.  We are happy to share with you a few important steps to take before sending out your invitations.  This will ensure that your big day goes off without a hitch.

Should we hire a wedding planner?  Who do we need to invite? What should our budget be? What time of year are we holding it? And so on.

All of these aspects will influence your decisions during the planning phase. And trust us—you want those decisions to be informed, not haphazard ones made out of panic or stress.

This article will discuss the steps on what to do after getting engaged and how to make sure that your wedding day will be everything you have ever dreamed of.

First step: Think about your wedding day vision

The first step to planning your wedding is also the most important: thinking about what you want your big day to look and feel like. Can you envision it?

Now that you've got a ring on it, what do you want your wedding day to look like? You’re probably overwhelmed by all the things you need to consider.  Do you want a big party or an intimate ceremony? Are you looking for something traditional or creative? Rustic, glamorous or…rustic glam?  The ideas are endless.  Our first suggestion is to jot down your ideas from the start. Brainstorm. Even if it seems silly.  As time goes along you will hone in on your vision and it will become very clear.

Think about what kind of setting will make your vision come to life. Maybe you want something more casual that's still elegant, like a royal celebration with friends and family. Or perhaps you have always wanted to get married outside in a more natural and enchanting setting.  Whatever your setting, it’s the overall wedding day experience that you and your guests will remember.

And don't forget about the time of year! Is there any special significance behind the date of your wedding? If so, it’s a great idea to make sure it's not conflicting with any other important dates in your life or anyone else involved with this event.

Second Step: Determining the type of venue and booking it

Now that the first step is complete, you have a pretty good idea of your overall wedding day vision. So, this leads us to the second step. Booking your venue. On average, couples book their venues around a year in advance of their wedding date, and the earlier you book, the better because prime dates book up quickly. This is a fact most newly engaged couples don’t realize.

Once you have your venue booked, it allows you to move forward with the rest of your plans.  It will give more clarity to all the ideas you were brainstorming about in the beginning.   You will know things like, the type of decor needed, or if your venue includes decor. What vendors you still need to hire, or maybe you even chose an all-inclusive package with your venue.  This reduces unnecessary costs, overspending, and planning time because you know exactly what needs to be done and when!

Some packages, for example the ones from The Barn at Cedar Grove, include a lot of decor options, so if you're looking for boho, rustic or elegant themes, we have you covered. Antique vehicles and vintage handmade church pews are just a few of the many decor options, so no matter what your style or vision is, we can accommodate your needs.

Third Step: Remember What Is Important

As you can see, there are many things to consider before jumping into planning. While it is important to keep things organized and on schedule, remember what is really important here.

It's easy to get caught up in the chaos of wedding planning and forget why you're getting married or what this is all about. You only get engaged once, so enjoy this unique time together and let it bring you both closer to each other.

You might find yourself stressed and anxious about all the details that need to be taken care of. However, when you are thinking about your wedding day and what is most important, you should focus on having fun with each other and enjoying the moment.

Conclusion

As you enter this season of engagement it can be overwhelming.
